Latin-American Identity Empty Latin-American Identity

I see many people that aren't very proud to be Colombians, but they are of being Latin-American. This may answer to the image that have the Latin-American people of sharing the same culture, but their rejection to their governments. Taking this into account, Why is the Latin-American identity so prominent?
