Well Juan, in order to understand the aims of those exams you have to have a broader view of the education system in our country. Colombia has lots and lots of private and public schools. This means that there are millions and millions of students who are willing to graduate and quealify for a good university. But in order to know who is functional and who is not on an specific career. universities have to know how good or bad you are for certain skills. For example, if you were to apply for a maths career, they need to know your skills on basic secondary school maths (which are the ones those exams evaluate) in order for them to know if you will do good and if you are capable of developing extra math skills to be a professional in them.
