Is buying Smartphones a trend?

Nowadays we see people complaining about not having the new Iphone or the new Samsung; ironically, every time a new smartphone goes on sale, especially when it’s an Iphone or a Samsung, it goes out of stock almost on the first day; has buying smartphones turned into a trend, or is there a more deep explanation behind this shopping frenzy?

For some people, it is a trend since they want to look like they can buy anything and that are always updated, however for some people don’t. The thing about people constantly buying new smartphones and new items has a lot do with pubkicity and marketing, that are constantly promoting consumerism among society; moreover, society has been telling us that if you have more than others, then you are more valuable which is actually completely false.
